S1122 EBGA 60-core IBM i capacity and I/O
| IBM i requirement | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Maximum cores per LPAR | 4 |
| Maximum CPW per LPAR | 118,200 |
| I/O | Virtualized through Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) |
| Partition setting | Restricted I/O |
| Software tier | P10 |
The 60 physical cores describe the system, not the size of one IBM i logical partition (LPAR). Allocate the cores across your IBM i, AIX, Linux, and VIOS partitions.
Choose ERGR four-core or ERGR eight-core if native IBM i I/O is required.
S1122 EBGA 60-core AIX performance
| Thread mode | rPerf |
|---|---|
| Single-thread | 488.2 |
| SMT2 | 913.4 |
| SMT4 | 1191.8 |
| SMT8 | 1531.9 |
These rPerf ratings describe the complete 60-core, two-socket AIX configuration. They are not ratings for one four-core IBM i partition.
The configuration CPW references differ: 117,100 in the processor-options listing and 124,500 in the overview. The page also gives a four-core, 118,200 CPW IBM i partition limit; confirm the CPW scope for the quoted configuration.
S1122 memory and storage
| Specification | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Memory | 64 GB to 4 TB across 32 DDR5 DDIMM slots |
| Internal bays | Eight U.2 NVMe bays |
| Mainstream NVMe maximum | 122.4 TB raw, eight 15.3 TB modules |
| Enterprise NVMe maximum | 51.2 TB raw, eight 6.4 TB modules |
| NVMe expansion | One NED24 drawer with 24 U.2 bays |
Storage maxima are raw capacity, not usable capacity after mirroring or other protection.
S1122 EBGA 60-core I/O and physical specifications
| Specification | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Chassis | 2U rack |
| Processor-dependent PCIe | Gen5 operation with DCM; slot-specific qualifications below |
| CEC slot topology | Four Gen5 x8 slots in the first slot group; four Gen5 x8 slots with x16 connectors; two Gen4 x8 slots with x16 connectors |
| PCIe expansion | One Gen4 I/O drawer; 12 slots |
| Width x depth x height | 18.97 x 32 x 3.4 in. (482 x 813 x 86.5 mm) |
| Weight | 71 lb (32.2 kg) |
The DCM overview describes all slots at Gen5 speeds, while the chassis specification includes two Gen4 x8 slots. We will confirm each adapter and slot speed with the selected configuration.
S1122 management and availability
- Chipkill memory and active memory mirroring.
- Redundant hot-plug power and cooling.
- eBMC management, processor instruction retry, and dynamic processor deallocation.
- PowerVM Enterprise Edition with optional dual VIOS.
- Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) and Power Private Cloud EP2.0.
- Up to 1,000 logical partitions or micro-partitions across the system.
S1122 software and management requirements
Match the installed OS release and I/O arrangement to the selected processor feature. HMC v11 requires a 7063-CR2 appliance or virtual HMC; the 7063-CR1 cannot manage Power 11.
| Software | Levels |
|---|---|
| IBM i | 7.6 with Power 11 GA PTF group; 7.5 TR6 or later; 7.4 TR12 or later. Apply this model's partition and I/O restrictions. |
| AIX with any I/O | 7.3 TL03 / SP 7300-03-01-2520; 7.2 TL05 / SP 7200-05-10-2520; or 7.3 TL02 / SP 7300-02-04-2520, or later. |
| AIX virtual-I/O-only partitions | 7.3 TL03 / SP 7300-03-00-2446; 7.3 TL02 / SP 7300-02-02-2420; or 7.2 TL05 / SP 7200-05-08-2420, or later. |
| VIOS | 4.1.1.10, 4.1.0.40, or 3.1.4.60, or later. |
| Linux | RHEL 8.10, RHEL 9.4, or RHEL 10.0 or later; RHEL for SAP 9.6 or later; SLES 15 SP6 or later, including SLES for SAP. |
| Red Hat OpenShift | Container Platform 4.19 or later. |
| Hardware Management Console | HMC v11 using 7063-CR2 or virtual HMC. 7063-CR1 does not support Power 11 management. |
Compare S1122 EBGA 60-core configurations
The 30-core EBGA uses one module at the same clock range. The 48-core EBG9 is also a two-socket choice, with fewer physical cores and a different clock range; compare the AIX rPerf ratings and partition requirements below.
| Configuration | Physical cores | Sockets | Clock GHz | Two-socket SMT8 rPerf |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EBG8 16-core | 16 | 1 | 3.0 to 4.2 (confirm range) | Not listed for this configuration |
| EBG9 24-core | 24 | 1 | 2.65 to 4.15 | Not listed for this configuration |
| EBGA 30-core | 30 | 1 | 2.4 to 3.95 | Not listed for this configuration |
| EBG8 32-core | 32 | 2 | 3.0 to 4.2 (confirm range) | 1040.3 |
| EBG9 48-core | 48 | 2 | 2.65 to 4.15 | 1357.8 |
| EBGA 60-core | 60 | 2 | 2.4 to 3.95 | 1531.9 |
EBG8 clock ranges await confirmation. rPerf values compare AIX configurations; IBM i remains P10 with restricted I/O and a four-core limit per partition.
