Compressed capacity assumes data that compresses at the stated ratio. Encrypted or already compressed backup data may stay close to native capacity. Keep a readable drive and the original backup application available for every retained tape generation.
TS2280 attachment and installation
The 3580-H8S is an external standalone SAS drive. Confirm the server adapter, connector and cable length against the installed drive before ordering; a connector that fits does not establish host support.

Allow space behind the shelf for the SAS connectors and power cords. The shelf is separate from an internal library drive sled.
IBM TS2280 configuration qualifications
- The introductory text includes LTO 6 read support, but the detailed compatibility section says media older than LTO 7 is not readable. Do not plan an LTO 6 restore on this drive until the exact configuration is confirmed.

- Identify the hardware. Send the complete model and serial number with drive labels, installed firmware and host adapter details.
- Check the backup job. Include the operating system, backup application and full-save size with the available backup and restore windows.
- Record retention and media. Include cartridge generations or disk retention, the key-management arrangement and the off-site recovery copy.
