Also known as: Power11, IBM Power11
The current generation of IBM Power Systems hardware, the newest platform a legacy AS400/IBM i workload can be migrated onto.
Power 11 is the current generation of IBM's Power Systems server hardware, following Power 10, Power 9, and earlier generations back through the original System i/AS400 hardware lineage. For an IBM i shop still running older hardware, Power 11 is the newest available migration target, bringing current processor performance, memory capacity, and IBM's latest PowerVM virtualization and security features to workloads that may still be running business logic written decades ago.
Migrating to Power 11 is a hardware move, not necessarily an application rewrite. Existing RPG, COBOL, and DB2 for i applications generally continue running after a properly planned migration, which is the core reason AS400 shops migrate hardware on a multi-year cycle instead of rewriting the application layer.
