IBM FlashSystem 5600 is the starting point among IBM's three new 2026 enterprise FlashSystem systems. It combines a 1U enclosure and 12 NVMe slots with the same core Storage Virtualize data services used across the family.
IBM publishes up to 2.4 PBe of effective capacity, 30 GB/s of read bandwidth, and 2.6 million IOPS for the system. Those are maximum values under IBM's stated assumptions, not a promise for every configuration or dataset.
Where It Fits an IBM i Environment
The 5600 is a practical candidate for a focused IBM i production workload, a secondary system, development and test, remote locations, or an organization replacing older storage without needing the scale of a 7600. The compact enclosure is useful when rack space and power matter, but workload data still decides whether it has enough headroom.
Before ordering, verify the exact IBM i release, Power server, adapter, direct or switched attachment, protocol, and Storage Virtualize level in IBM's System Storage Interoperation Center. Model name alone does not certify an IBM i configuration.
