IBM FlashSystem 9600 is the high-end system in IBM's 2026 enterprise FlashSystem generation. It is designed for the largest mixed workloads, major consolidation, critical databases, and organizations where storage headroom and recovery requirements justify the top system.
IBM publishes up to 11.8 PBe of effective capacity, 86 GB/s of read bandwidth, and 6.3 million IOPS from its 2U, 32-slot control enclosure. The system also provides the most memory in the three-model line.
Where It Fits an IBM i Environment
The 9600 belongs in an IBM i evaluation when storage supports many systems or partitions, high-volume transactional databases, critical ERP applications, demanding batch windows, major consolidation, or growth that would make the 7600 too narrow over the planned lifecycle.
It should not be selected solely because it has the largest published numbers. IBM's effective-capacity and IOPS figures depend on stated assumptions, and real workloads rarely behave like a single benchmark.
