AI SIEM for IBM i

Connect AS400 evidence to the wider incident

Bring IBM i audit events into the same investigation as identity and endpoint activity. Check collection and field mapping before relying on an AI summary.

Why IBM i belongs in the security investigation

A suspicious cloud login may be only part of an incident. The next question is whether the same person accessed an IBM i application or changed authority on a business system. Separate dashboards make that connection harder to see.

Our AI Native SIEM offering names IBM i, iSeries and AS400 telemetry alongside cloud and endpoint sources. It also identifies Enforcive and Assure Security event logs. The useful next step is to match your installed product and event format to a tested collection method.

That statement does not establish a direct connector for every IBM i release or every security product. Record the installed release, collection software version and required event types before planning the connection.

Start with the IBM i audit source

IBM i security auditing uses the QAUDJRN audit journal when configured. An export or forwarding product must translate the selected entries into records the receiving SIEM can understand. Sending ordinary system messages alone does not establish complete audit coverage.

IBM documents an AJLIB collection method for QRadar. That is evidence for that specific integration, not a claim that AJLIB is a universal Fluency connector. Choose the collection method supported by your actual sender and receiver.

Have the IBM i administrator confirm the audit configuration and receiver handling. A quiet feed can mean no relevant activity, disabled auditing or a stopped collector. The SIEM needs a way to distinguish those conditions.

Verify Enforcive and Assure event coverage

A product name in an integration list is a starting point. Ask which modules produce the events you need. Application auditing and file auditing can answer different questions from a system authority change.

  • Keep the original event type and source system identifier.
  • Preserve user profile and affected object details when the source provides them.
  • Confirm whether the event says an action succeeded or merely occurred as an attempt.
  • Record collector permissions and an owner for format changes.

Use a reviewed test change rather than assuming a visually convincing dashboard proves the mapping is correct.

Keep AIX and Linux collection distinct from IBM i

The processor family does not decide the log format. IBM i audit entries, AIX audit facilities and Linux host logs need their own collection design. An application can also write its own audit trail outside the operating-system feed.

Inventory the workload and installed OS for every partition. A Linux syslog feed does not prove AIX audit coverage. A supported host connector does not prove that a database audit source is enabled.

Connect identities without guessing

A shared name across systems may refer to different people. One person may also have a cloud account and a separate privileged IBM i profile. Document those relationships and shared service accounts before letting a case merge them.

Consider a hypothetical incident: an unusual cloud sign-in precedes a privileged IBM i change. The analyst needs the original records and their time zones to decide whether the events are related. AI can help assemble that sequence; the matching rules and evidence still need review.

Prove the complete IBM i feed before rollout

  1. Agree on a harmless authorized test and the expected audit entry.
  2. Confirm the entry exists in the IBM i source.
  3. Follow it through forwarding and parsing into the SIEM.
  4. Check identity, timestamp, affected object and outcome against the source.
  5. Pause the test feed in a controlled window and confirm the collection-health alert.

Plan receiver retention and local buffering so an outage does not silently lose the only copy. Keep any production containment involving an IBM i profile or business application under an explicitly approved response procedure.

Continue with the SIEM implementation plan.
