Raw capacity is the installed media total before RAID and reserves. Usable capacity is what remains for data; effective capacity also assumes compression or other data reduction.

Dedicated model specifications392 drives / 12 PB; the same page later gives 504 drives and a 1,008-drive clustered scope

FlashSystem 5015 configuration limits and source differences

  • The family source includes compression and deduplication in its general software list. The detailed 5015 / 5035 software description reserves those data-reduction functions for 5035; we confirm the entitlement before quoting them for 5015.
  • The 550 TB enclosure figure is not labeled raw, usable or effective in the source. It is not a guaranteed usable capacity.
  • The dedicated model specification gives 392 drives / 12 PB while its later family text gives 504 / 1,008 drives. Confirm the required topology and software; neither maximum is an installed capacity.

Rack dimensions

The family page gives 19-inch width and 21.9-inch depth. Its stated height is 3.4 inches; check the exact chassis and rail clearance before ordering.

FlashSystem 5015 software and IBM i attachment

We check the installed IBM Storage Virtualize or Spectrum Virtualize level against the proposed drives and adapters. Features such as replication, encryption and snapshots depend on the model, software level and entitlements.

For IBM i, send the Power model, IBM i release and host adapter details. We check direct or switched attachment and the supported protocol in the IBM System Storage Interoperation Center before finalizing the configuration.

FlashSystem 5015 data services and availability

  • Thin provisioning and internal storage virtualization.
  • Dynamic migration and FlashCopy; the shared source specifies up to sixty-four FlashCopy mappings per system.
  • Compression and block deduplication are described as 5035-only in the shared detailed software section.

Room and upgrade requirements for FlashSystem 5015

  1. Identify the installation. Send the complete machine type, serial number and installed software level.
  2. Record capacity and workload. Include installed drive types, RAID layout and current usable space with peak IOPS and latency.
  3. Check rack and power. Record rail depth, service clearance and the existing outlet and PDU connections; include every expansion shelf.
  4. Plan attachment and migration. Include host adapters, switch models and optics with the available migration window.
