IBM FlashSystem 9100

FlashSystem 9100: 9110 and 9150 storage

Match a 9100-family upgrade to its AF7 or AF8 controller before choosing parts. The 9110 and 9150 share NVMe drive choices but use different controller processors.

Raw capacity is the installed media total before RAID and reserves. Usable capacity is what remains for data; effective capacity also assumes compression or other data reduction.

FlashSystem 9100 configuration limits and source differences

  • The AF8 product specifies two fourteen-core processors per node; AF7 uses two eight-core processors per node on the family page.
  • The 3.8 million read-hit IOPS and 34 GB/s ratings are the AF8 source context and are not assigned to every AF7 arrangement.
  • The dedicated AF8 page gives 10 million scaled IOPS while the overview gives 15 million. Confirm the cluster and test before sizing.
  • A FlashCopy snapshot does not by itself prove that the complete IBM i backup finishes within a fixed time.

9110 and 9150 controller comparison

AF7 and AF8 are controller identities in the 9100 family. The source maps 9110-AF7 to 9846-AF7 / 9848-AF7 and 9150-AF8 to 9846-AF8 / 9848-AF8. Send the complete label and serial number with a parts request.

FlashSystem 9100 software and IBM i attachment

We check the installed IBM Storage Virtualize or Spectrum Virtualize level against the proposed drives and adapters. Features such as replication, encryption and snapshots depend on the model, software level and entitlements.

For IBM i, send the Power model, IBM i release and host adapter details. We check direct or switched attachment and the supported protocol in the IBM System Storage Interoperation Center before finalizing the configuration.

FlashSystem 9100 data services and availability

  • Spectrum Virtualize and Storage Insights in the model source.
  • HyperSwap and FlashCopy in supported licensed configurations.
  • Mirrored cache and dual-active node canisters; confirm code support for NVMe host protocols.

Room and upgrade requirements for FlashSystem 9100

  1. Identify the installation. Send the complete machine type, serial number and installed software level.
  2. Record capacity and workload. Include installed drive types, RAID layout and current usable space with peak IOPS and latency.
  3. Check rack and power. Record rail depth, service clearance and the existing outlet and PDU connections; include every expansion shelf.
  4. Plan attachment and migration. Include host adapters, switch models and optics with the available migration window.
