IBM i Business Intelligence and Reporting

Get useful answers from IBM i data without another reporting bottleneck

Compare IBM i query and reporting tools around the answers your team needs. Find the data access, distribution and performance choices that make reports useful in daily work.

What this software needs to solve

A sales report is useful when the business trusts its totals and receives it in time to make a decision. The buying comparison should follow a real question from its source data to the person using the answer.

Compare the buying decisions

BI & Query Reporting buying comparison
DecisionWhat changes the choice
Business questionsCompare a recurring business decision rather than a list of chart types.
Data access and permissionsCompare the actual Db2 data sources and the restrictions that must follow them.
Freshness and system workloadCompare live access with a refreshed reporting copy.
Report delivery and ownershipCompare scheduled delivery, export formats and maintenance responsibilities.

Which answer is hard to get today?

We would start with a report people already use and a question that report cannot answer easily. The trial should explain where the fields come from and how the totals reconcile.

A dashboard, an ad hoc query and an approved month-end report can serve different audiences. The proposed tool needs to fit the people who create the answer and the people who rely on it.

Who can see the underlying information?

A reporting connection can expose information beyond the business application screen. We would compare the access needed for the report with the authorities held by its creator and reader.

Sensitive-field handling should carry into downloads and scheduled output. The masking comparison explains why a restricted screen does not by itself describe every exported copy.

How current must the answer be?

An inventory decision may need current data while a weekly summary may tolerate a scheduled refresh. A reporting copy also introduces a refresh process that needs an owner.

We would run the proposed report during a representative workload and compare runtime and resource use. A copied dataset should be tested for completeness and update timing rather than assumed current.

Can the team keep the report useful?

The person receiving a spreadsheet may need a different result from the person using an interactive report. We would test the required output with its actual reader.

The proposal should also explain who can update a definition when the business changes. Version ownership and an agreed explanation of each important total make a recurring report easier to trust.

A useful trial before the purchase

We would build the demonstration around representative work from your environment.

  1. Rebuild a representative report and reconcile its key totals against the agreed source.
  2. Test the report as a permitted user and a restricted user, including exports.
  3. Run the required refresh and delivery schedule under a representative system workload.

What belongs in the software quote

A clear proposal connects the license to the installation and the work your team will run.

  • Report creators, readers and required output formats.
  • Data sources, permissions and sensitive-field rules.
  • Live or refreshed data requirements and expected workload.
  • Existing report conversion, training, scheduling and licensing.

Discuss your software requirements with Midland

Midland software and product context

Our BI and query-reporting catalog lists NGS-IQ Suite, NGS - QPort Office and database replication and conversion software. These names identify offerings to discuss; the demonstration should establish which proposed package handles your required work.

Catalog and product context checked October 23, 2026. The proposal identifies the edition, licensed scope and supported configuration being offered.
