A virtual drive is a presented tape device, not a physical LTO drive. The base virtual-resource counts describe the dedicated model configuration; more virtual drives or libraries can require additional licences. Record concurrent save jobs separately from the number of hosts.

Published bay and capacity limits describe a fully expanded configuration. Confirm disk sizes, RAID reserve and spare drives to obtain usable capacity. Compression and deduplication depend on the backup data; do not size retained backups from an assumed reduction ratio.
CIL2308-VTL connections and backup rate
2 x 1 GbE per controller; 2 x USB 3.0; 3 feature slots. Optional attachment choices in the family include Fibre Channel, SAS and faster Ethernet; the installed adapters and supported emulation decide which a host can use.
The appliance rating is an aggregate performance claim. A single 1 GbE or 10 GbE connection cannot carry the full 1 GB/s rating. Include the host adapters, switch ports and concurrent save streams in a throughput quote. We check IBM i release and Power model support for the selected connection.
CIL2308-VTL physical tape offload and recovery
The model supports external tape offload in a compatible configuration. Offload needs a supported physical library, media and the correct attachment. A disk VTL remains online unless a separate copy is removed or isolated.
Optional encrypted replication, retention locking and cloud export can add recovery choices. Confirm the selected licence and destination, protect the encryption keys, and test a full system restore before relying on the recovery copy.

- The dedicated introduction names CIL3324 and gives 24 bays / 440 TB. The family comparison and CIL2308 expansion arithmetic give eight base bays / 120 TB and 128 maximum bays / 2.2 PB; these are kept as the CIL2308 configuration.
- The dedicated specification gives one base stream / virtual drive while a family card says six. This page retains the dedicated base licence; quote any stream expansion explicitly.
