TS3500 L53 drive and slot configuration
The 3584-L53 catalog configuration uses TS1030 LTO 3 Fibre Channel drives. Cartridge capacity changes with the number of installed drives and I/O stations; a frame with more than four drives does not retain the same maximum slot total. Record the enabled capacity and actual physical layout before planning an expansion.

A mixed-media library can handle both cartridge families through its robotics. That does not make an LTO drive read a 3592 cartridge, or make a 3592 drive fit an L53 drive position. The IBM frame reference supplements the dedicated L53 catalog entry.
TS3500 robotics and power
The enhanced frame control assembly in L53 and D53 frames includes two power supplies that can each power the frame and its drives. An optional second accessor uses service bays and changes the required floor layout. Include the library string, accessor arrangement and service clearance in a parts request.
TS3500 archive and capacity check
The L53 source pairs a 230 TB capacity claim with both “physical” and 2:1 compression wording. That wording does not establish a native capacity. We size the order from the actual slot count and cartridge generation rather than using 230 TB as guaranteed native space. Keep a tested TS1030-compatible restore arrangement for retained LTO 3 media.
IBM TS3500 configuration qualifications
- The dedicated source labels 230 TB as physical capacity while also applying 2:1 compression. It is not shown as native capacity.
- The dedicated L53 page specifies TS1030 LTO 3; later TS3500 drive support is not assigned to this catalog configuration without checking its frame and firmware.

- Identify the hardware. Send the complete model and serial number with drive labels, installed firmware and host adapter details.
- Check the backup job. Include the operating system, backup application and full-save size with the available backup and restore windows.
- Record retention and media. Include cartridge generations or disk retention, the key-management arrangement and the off-site recovery copy.
