AI SIEM use cases

Investigate the activity that puts business systems at risk

Connect suspicious sign-ins to changes on endpoints and business systems. Use these scenarios to decide which AI SIEM workflows your team should test first.

Compromised identity across cloud and IBM i

Start with a question your team has had to answer: what did this account do after the suspicious sign-in? An alert about a login is useful. A supported sequence showing what followed is more useful.

Combine the identity-provider event with endpoint activity and relevant business-system auditing. For an IBM i environment, that may include a separately named privileged profile. Keep the identity mapping visible rather than treating matching names as proof.

The acceptance test is an evidence-linked timeline. It should separate known activity from missing sources and explain why the analyst should escalate or close the case.

Unexpected privileged changes on a business system

A new privileged account can be planned maintenance or an attacker establishing access. The difference often sits outside the alert: who requested the change and whether it occurred inside the approved work window.

Give the SIEM a reviewed source of change context when available. Retain the original event and the acting account. Ask the investigator to distinguish an approved change from the same event without an approval record.

For IBM i, confirm which audit types your configuration records. Do not assume a general log feed includes every authority or object change. Review the IBM i collection checks.

Suspicious email changes after a sign-in

An attacker with a valid account may create forwarding rules or change account settings. Correlating that change with identity activity can give the analyst a more useful starting point than either record alone.

Test whether the product shows the actual rule or setting that changed and the account that performed it. A summary saying an account was compromised should point to evidence and state any missing context.

Endpoint and network activity tied to the same case

A suspicious process on a workstation can have consequences on systems the endpoint tool does not monitor. Network and identity records can help determine where the account went next.

Keep device identifiers and time handling consistent. Distinguish a security product reporting an attempted block from a confirmed successful connection. Those events should not become the same statement in an AI case narrative.

A missing source during an investigation

Collection failure deserves its own workflow. An incident review becomes misleading when an AI answer treats a missing source as evidence that nothing happened.

Pause an approved test connector or supply a known incomplete sample. The system should show which source is unavailable and how that changes the conclusion. Give an owner the collection-health alert so a delayed feed receives attention before the next incident.

Choose a scenario by the evidence you can collect

Compromised identitySign-in events and reviewed account mappings.A timeline that names the affected systems.
Privileged changeAuthority events and approved change context.A defensible escalation or closure decision.

Endpoint and network incidentEndpoint findings and network records.A case that distinguishes attempts from observed outcomes.
Collection outageExpected event flow and a controlled interruption. An explicit gap warning with an assigned owner.

Measure the analyst work that changes

Record time to reach a supported decision and how often the answer needs correction. Track missed expected events as well as noisy alerts. A smaller alert count is valuable only when useful detection coverage is preserved.

These are suggested evaluation scenarios rather than claims about customer outcomes. Use the proof-of-value plan to compare each candidate on the same work.
