Capacity on Demand (CoD) is a licensing model on IBM Power Systems hardware where a server ships with more processor cores or memory physically installed than the customer initially pays to activate. Additional capacity can be turned on later, temporarily or permanently, without a physical upgrade, which matters for planning ahead of a busy season or future growth without buying a bigger machine up front.
CoD is a licensing and activation decision, separate from LPAR partitioning: CoD determines how much total capacity a physical machine has available to allocate, while LPARs determine how that available capacity gets divided between running workloads.
