The system keeps running, End of Support isn't a shutoff switch, but IBM stops issuing security patches, fixes, and official technical support for that hardware generation or IBM i release. Over time this becomes both a security exposure (unpatched vulnerabilities) and a risk exposure for compliance audits and cyber-insurance requirements that expect vendor-supported infrastructure.
