End of Support (EOS)

The date after which IBM stops issuing security patches, fixes, and official support for a given hardware generation or IBM i release.

Also known as: End of Life, EOL, EOS

The date after which IBM stops issuing security patches, fixes, and official support for a given hardware generation or IBM i release.

End of Support (sometimes called End of Life) is the date IBM stops issuing security patches, PTFs (fixes), and official technical support for a specific hardware generation or IBM i operating system release. A system still running past its EOS date keeps functioning, but stops receiving security updates, which is the usual compliance and risk trigger behind a hardware migration project.

Hardware EOS and IBM i release EOS are tracked separately. It's possible to be current on IBM i software while running hardware that is itself past its own support window, or vice versa; a migration plan needs to check both.
