FAQ

What's the difference between AS400, IBM i, and Power Systems?

Midland Information Systems sells, supports, and migrates AS400 and IBM i Power Systems hardware and software, from legacy AS400 environments through the current IBM Power 11 line, plus Managed SIEM services for IBM i shops replacing self-run Splunk.

AS400 is the original 1988 hardware line and the term most people still use out of habit for the whole platform. IBM i is the operating system that grew out of the AS/400's original OS/400. IBM Power Systems is the current hardware line that IBM i now runs on. In short: AS400 is the heritage name, IBM i is the OS, Power Systems is the current hardware.
